It was just a few weeks ago when, Larry J. Bland, Richmond’s celebrated gospel choir director, shared an e-mail that stated that he was suffering from a serious illness. He also requested prayer and privacy.
The e-mail was shared with his former and past members of The Volunteer Choir, as well as friends and associates. “It is with sadness I have to inform you I am currently in Stage 4 cancer and also dealing with a serious case of pneumonia. Please pray for me and respect my privacy at this time. It is much appreciated that no telephone calls or visits are attempted,” he Stated.
Since that e-mail was shared all of Richmond and all who know him have been very concern and in prayer for him. In an effort to help ease any financial burdens he may be experiencing, a FUNDRAISER has now been put in place to take place on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Fifth Baptist Church from 3p.m. to 6p.m.
It’s actually going to be a DRIVE THRU, where everyone will be able to participate by showing their love, appreciation and support for Larry.
Mr. Bland ended his 44-year tenure as director of The Volunteer Choir with a final concert on Dec. 30, 2018.
Let’s all show our support and DRIVE THRU to support our beloved brother Larry Bland and keep him in prayer.
